Customer Review Summary

The Lauten Audio Series Black LA-120 V2 is a remarkable piece of equipment that has largely met my professional expectations. Designed to be used with omnidirectional capsules, these microphones deliver impressive sound quality with good transparency. However, I did encounter some disappointment regarding the signal-to-noise ratio, as the residual noise level is not acceptable for broadcast recording.

In comparison to Neumann KM184s, the LA-120 V2 holds its own quite well. While they are not as smooth as the KM184s, they are notably bright and boast a high recording level. The construction quality is exceptional, reflecting thoughtful design and attention to detail.

I’ve utilised these microphones in various settings, including classical orchestras for flutes and strings, as well as for overheads in drum kits and acoustic performances. They consistently perform well and are highly competitive for their price point. Although I have other preferences for grand piano recordings, for most other applications, the Lauten LA-120 V2 proves to be a winning choice, thanks to its filters and attenuator. Whenever I am faced with the question of what microphone to use, I often find myself reaching for the Lauten LA-120.
