It doesn’t overly colour the sound, which means I have to be diligent with EQ carving to achieve the desired results. Once the music sounds good on the MixCubes, it translates well across all systems, making it a reliable reference tool.
For those who are experienced and know what they’re aiming for, this monitor is exceptionally revealing, enabling me to hear and feel every transient and detail clearly. The high-quality amplifier ensures minimal noise, even at full volume, which is a testament to its build quality. The sound clarity is remarkable, allowing for a deep understanding of how to balance volumes and manage dynamics effectively.
While I wouldn’t recommend this model for stereo work, it’s an excellent choice for checking mixes in mono, especially for simulating low-fi setups. The MixCubes have become an essential part of my mixing process, aiding in identifying imbalances in frequency ranges that need correction. Overall, the Avantone MixCubes offer incredible value for money and are a fantastic addition to any monitoring setup.
