Avantone CLA10 Active Monitors Review
Having used various setups for monitoring, including Neumann and Auratone speakers, I found my ears often fatigued from the bass-heavy output of larger monitors. Transitioning to the Avantone CLA10A was a refreshing change, allowing me to mix more comfortably without sacrificing sound quality.
The CLA10A offers a softer and more pleasant sound compared to the Auratones, with a focus on midrange clarity. While the Auratones produce a drier bass, the CLA10As give a fuller, more engaging listening experience. After some adjustments, I was pleased to find that switching between the CLA10A and my Neumann monitors primarily altered the bass foundation, maintaining overall tonal balance.
One notable feature is the adjustable high-frequency control, which lets you tailor the sound to your preference. The range of adjustment is extensive, allowing for a more personalised listening experience. However, I believe the crossover frequency for the tweeter could be set lower for an even more pleasing high-end response.
These monitors excel in maintaining a clear sound across genres, particularly in rock music where guitar presence is critical. For those who mix electronic music, the CLA10A provides an excellent neutral reference without overwhelming bass, which is crucial for maintaining hearing sensitivity after long sessions.
While the build quality is generally good, I would appreciate a more robust design for on-the-road use. Despite this, I find the Avantone CLA10A indispensable for my mixing and production needs, recommending them to anyone looking for reliable monitoring solutions that won’t cause ear fatigue.
