Customer Review Summary

The Schoeps CMC 6 U Mic-Amp is a remarkable microphone amplifier that truly shines when paired with a microphone capsule. I tested it with the MK4 and MK21H capsules, and the sound quality is nothing short of exquisite. It offers a neutral, detailed, and honest audio reproduction, ensuring that if the original sound source is of high quality, the results are simply brilliant.

I appreciate the aesthetic and tactile experience of the CMC 6 U; its grippy grey finish sets it apart from other microphones I’ve encountered. The clarity and faithful timbre it delivers are exceptional, making it one of the best choices for classical guitar. Schoeps products consistently impress, and the modular system allows for easy capsule and polar pattern changes, which enhances versatility in acoustic recording applications.

While the cosmetic finish can be somewhat delicate, the microphone’s durability is commendable. The sound performance, however, is a joy—it’s accurate for spot miking woodwinds, and when paired with the MK41 capsule, it becomes the best microphone I’ve used for double bass in live settings. The MK41 excels at isolation, minimising bleed from drums or other instruments.

Overall, the Schoeps CMC 6 U is an outstanding preamp, compatible with both 12 and 48 volts, and it has significantly improved my recordings since replacing the CMC5. The transparency of sound it offers is simply incredible.
