Customer Review Summary

I have been using the Haun MBC 440 as a microphone for home recording, primarily for classical music, including vocals and string instruments like violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Additionally, I utilise it for video conferencing.

Positives:

  • It produces minimal background noise even at high gain settings.
  • The microphone effectively suppresses ambient sounds due to its directional characteristics.
  • It offers a detail-rich and faithful reproduction of sound, without colouring the voice. This is ideal for those who appreciate a natural sound, though it may not suit those looking to enhance their vocal quality.
  • The build quality is solid and reliable.

Negatives:

  • The price is on the higher end, which may deter some potential users.
  • In certain applications, I find that I need to increase the gain considerably, which can pick up unwanted noises, such as my guinea pigs in the same room. However, this is more of a placement issue than a fault of the microphone itself.

Overall, I highly recommend the MBC 440. The sound quality has been excellent for the recordings I produce, which I sell for international projects, and I have experienced no dissatisfaction with the audio quality when using software like Cubase with the Steinberg UR44C interface.

While I consider myself quite audiophile due to my studies, I do not have extensive comparisons with other small condenser microphones. However, the MBC 440 stands out with its clarity and transparency, as well as its impressive localisation and depth. It tends to have a bright sound, yet remains natural without emphasising any particular frequency range.

The differences with the smaller MBC 660 are noticeable, especially in the low-frequency response, where the 660 lacks depth, possibly by design, as it has its own specific applications.

In conclusion, the Haun MBC 440 is an excellent microphone, delivering high-quality sound and transmission. It offers a beautifully balanced audio experience that challenges some of the higher-end brands, and I believe it deserves a positive evaluation.
