Customer Review Summary

The Telefunken M80 Oak is anything but a mundane microphone. Its stunning wooden finish and silver grille exude a vintage charm that is both distinctive and tasteful.

The microphone feels robust and inspires confidence from the very first handling. The wide clip holds the mic securely without being overly tight, making it easy to handle.

Once connected, the M80 truly shines. The output gain is impressive, and the dynamic response is exceptional. It delivers a very open sound with a well-controlled low end that is almost scooped, while the high frequencies remain neither overly bright nor harsh. This microphone is clear and effectively resists feedback, even in challenging conditions.

Although I initially purchased it for my own vocals, I found it didn’t suit me perfectly. However, it worked wonders for my singing partner, who has a clear voice that doesn’t particularly lean towards the bass. She benefited from the M80’s clarity, effortlessly cutting through the mix.

Where the M80 really excelled was on a snare drum. Its frequency response is particularly well-suited for this application, capturing the dynamic and sharp crack of the snare with remarkable energy. The controlled low end ensures that only the necessary bass frequencies are retained, while the microphone’s clarity brings out the snappy character of the snare.

This is not a versatile, all-round microphone like the SM58; rather, it is a characterful mic that makes a genuine impact on the right voice or instruments, such as a snare drum. It will complement your collection beautifully, providing a quality that others may lack.

In summary, the Telefunken M80 Oak is worth every penny!
