Review of the Sontronics STC-1S MT BK
I recently had the opportunity to test out the Sontronics STC-1S MT BK, and I must say, these microphones offer a remarkable performance. They produce a very clear sound that excels particularly well for recording instruments like pianos and acoustic guitars. The versatility of these mics is commendable, featuring useful options such as -10 dB and -20 dB pads, as well as adjustable frequency roll-off at 75 Hz or 150 Hz.
In terms of construction, the microphones feel solid and well-made, embodying the craftsmanship of British manufacturing. They come in a nice, padded wooden case, adding to their appeal. However, I did find the included mounting hardware to be of lower quality. It didn’t fit securely, which made achieving a stable setup somewhat challenging.
While the microphones performed admirably in terms of sound quality, I did notice that they could sound a bit thin or metallic at times, especially when tested against other models like the AKG C1000, which provided a warmer and rounder sound. Nevertheless, for the price point, the Sontronics microphones deliver a decent and balanced audio experience, making them suitable as utility mics.
Overall, I would recommend the Sontronics STC-1S MT BK for anyone looking for affordable yet reliable microphones. They may not be the absolute best in every category, but they certainly offer solid performance and versatility for a variety of recording situations.
