Customer Review Summary

Review of the Sanken CMS-50 Microphone

I am very happy with this microphone. Despite its compact size, the off-axis rejection is impressive, and the sound quality is both clear and pleasant. I upgraded from the Audio Technica 4029 primarily for its size, and I am pleased with the improvement in sound quality.

However, I must note that while the profile of the Sanken CMS-50 initially seemed appealing as a small, lightweight M-S solution, it has limitations. The M-channel is only a cardioid pattern, which renders it unsuitable for my needs in documentary sound recording. Without directionality in the M-channel, it lacks the functionality I require.

Additionally, I find that it introduces a noticeable amount of noise, and the overall sound quality does not meet my expectations. Therefore, I regret to say that this microphone is not a fit for me, especially considering its price point.
