Customer Review Summary

The PSI Audio Sub A125-M Studio Red is an exceptional addition to the PSI monitor lineup, particularly when paired with smaller monitors like the A14 and A17. This unit is not merely a subwoofer; it complements the low-end range of these monitors seamlessly. When positioned correctly between the monitors, it creates a soundstage that is cohesive and well-balanced, with an ideal listening distance of 1 to 1.5 metres. The sound is smooth and homogeneous, showcasing the superior craftsmanship typical of PSI products.

However, it is crucial to place the Sub A125-M freely in the room, avoiding corners and walls, to achieve optimal performance. This placement is key to preventing issues with room acoustics, and while alternatives like Genelec’s DSP solutions can simplify setup in constrained spaces, the PSI monitors excel in a more open environment. When set up correctly with adequate space around them, the PSI monitors deliver a sound that is less hyped and more natural, providing a true reference listening experience.

In comparison to Genelec monitors, the PSI system offers a wider soundstage and superior localisation of individual instruments, highlighting the extensive hand-tuning involved in their production. Despite initial hesitations regarding the investment in an 8″ low-end extension, the performance of the A125-M has proven so impressive that it has become an indispensable part of my studio setup. The synergy achieved with two small monitors is remarkable, allowing the subwoofer to blend into the overall sound rather than standing out. This combination is a testament to PSI’s dedication to quality, albeit at a higher price point.
