Customer Review Summary

The Golden Age Audio Premier GA-47 MKII is an exceptional choice for anyone seeking a high-quality tube microphone, particularly for vocal recordings. After extensive testing, I can confidently say that this microphone truly excels in enriching the vocal sound. Once warmed up for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, it delivers a lush tonal quality that stands out in a mix without being overpowering.

The high frequencies are well-balanced and not overly pronounced, which is a common issue with many microphones. This results in a relatively ‘neutral’ output, although one must consider the inherent characteristics of tube circuitry when discussing neutrality.

The overall tonal coloration of the GA-47 is dark and smooth, yet it avoids being dull or muffled. It is clear that the design does not follow the current trend of overly aggressive sound profiles found in modern microphones. While I have not had the opportunity to test a vintage U47, the GA-47 meets all the expectations one might have of such a renowned model.

The sound characteristics of the GA-47 align beautifully with the recordings that are famously captured by the classic U47, which is precisely what I desired. Furthermore, the aesthetic design closely resembles the original, a feature I personally appreciate as a vocalist, as it adds to the overall appeal of the microphone.

The build quality of the entire microphone set is commendable, although I did find the wooden case a bit snug, making it a challenge to extract the microphone initially. Now, I simply place a cloth under the microphone, making it easier to remove without any hassle. The microphone is securely held in its packaging, ensuring safety during transport.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with my decision to choose the GA-47. As an enthusiastic home user with professional experience in the audio industry, I wholeheartedly recommend this microphone to anyone looking for an affordable option that imparts the renowned sound character associated with the legendary Berlin model, which we have all come to love in countless recordings.
