Additional Information

Customer Review Summary

The Genelec 8331 AM is an impressive monitor speaker, notable for its compact size as the smallest of “The Ones”. At first glance, the price may seem steep, but the performance justifies the investment. The build quality is exceptional, and the linear frequency response is a standout feature, making them suitable for various applications.

When tested in less than ideal acoustic environments, the 8331 AM delivered a noticeable improvement in sound quality compared to other models, such as the KH80. The bass response is deeper, and the mids are more present, resulting in a less strained sound with greater spatial awareness. However, it’s worth mentioning that both models exhibited audible noise, which is concerning at this price point. While the KH80 had a slightly higher frequency noise, the 8331 AM, being designed for closer listening distances, should ideally perform better in this regard.

The coaxial design of the 8331 AM is particularly effective for near-field monitoring, offering a precise stereo image and optimising the ratio of direct sound to room acoustics. In a well-managed acoustic environment, these monitors can provide a flat frequency response down to 38 Hz, especially when paired with the GLM kit that mitigates room-induced boosts.

Despite the need for additional subwoofers to complement the low-end performance, the 8331 AM has already proven to surpass all previous monitors I have used. They have completely transformed my listening experience, allowing me to rediscover details in my music. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied with my choice to invest in the Genelec 8331 AM.
