Customer Review Summary

The Austrian Audio OC818 Black Studio Set is an exceptional microphone that truly impresses with its sound quality and versatility.

Having conducted extensive research prior to purchasing, I found that many professionals highly recommend the OC818, praising its remarkable capsule and build quality. Upon testing, I was amazed by its fidelity, particularly when capturing electric guitars and vocals. The detail it captures in vocals is especially noteworthy.

In terms of construction, the microphone feels robust and well-crafted, weighing in a way that suggests durability. The included accessories, such as the case and shock mount, are also of high quality. Using it in mono mode, the clarity and precision were outstanding.

One of the standout features is its stereo capability. With the dual-output design, it captures both the front and rear of the capsule, enabling post-production adjustments to the polar pattern based on frequency ranges, which is a truly innovative aspect.

The ability to pair these microphones for stereo use, even when purchased separately, is a significant advantage, and the Bluetooth adapter for remote control of filters, polar patterns, and gain adds another layer of convenience, particularly for those who need to adjust settings from a distance.

Having experience with other high-end microphones, I find the OC818 comparable to vintage models from AKG, but with enhanced durability. The sound is incredibly transparent, making it a versatile choice for various applications, from guitar amps to vocals.

Despite a few minor quirks, such as the bass response needing careful setup and the on-body switches being a bit less comfortable, the overall performance is outstanding. If I could only choose one microphone for all my recording needs, the OC818 would be my top choice. It’s a workhorse that excels in multiple scenarios.
