Customer Review Summary
The Audix D6X is a remarkable microphone that has truly impressed me. Initially, I was not a fan of Audix drum microphones due to their strong tonal colouring, but after conducting a thorough shootout with several colleagues, my opinion changed dramatically.
During the tests, we used the Audix D6 for bass drum applications, and I was astonished by the depth of sound it produced. However, I still found the tonal colouring a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, the D6X offers three selectable tonal options in its frequency response, allowing for adjustments from weak to strong colouring, which is a fantastic feature for versatility.
This microphone seems tailor-made for my needs, as I’ve been considering acquiring an Audix D6 for a while. The D6X not only retains the characteristic sound of the D6, but also allows for a more neutral setting, which is perfect for those looking for flexibility beyond the typical metallic kick sound.
The build quality of the D6X is exceptional, featuring robust aluminium construction that ensures durability. The included transport case is practical, although I found the microphone clamp requires a bit of effort to secure the microphone firmly.
While the price point may not be the lowest, the value offered by this microphone is undeniable. It excels in delivering a warm, fast low end, making it ideal for both kick drums and talking drums, despite the occasional annoyance of the unique clip size. Overall, the Audix D6X is a worthy investment.
