Customer Review Summary
I recently had the opportunity to test the Schoeps MK 2 S Omni, and I must say, the sound quality is exceptional. These capsules, part of the Colette series, are undoubtedly top-notch, providing an impressive balance that rivals some of the best in the market.
In comparison to other microphones, the MK 2 S stands out for its clarity and precision. While I have not personally tested the Sennheiser 8000 series, the Schoeps capsules hold their own against competitors like the Microtech Gefell M42 and the DPA 4000 series, which may sound slightly more forgiving but are on a similar level.
When placed alongside Neumann small diaphragm microphones, the Schoeps MK 2 S reveals a significant difference; the latter appears more resolving and less muddled, offering a more vibrant and clear sound profile. I have also found that the DPA 4041, while perhaps a touch less immediate, provides a fuller sound that I find slightly preferable over the older models I once relied on.
Particularly for classical music recordings, the MK 2 S excels due to its subtle elevation in the higher frequencies, making it an outstanding choice. It competes closely with the DPA 4040, which harmoniously balances desirable sound attributes and allows for the versatility of using either tube or solid-state amplification, thus ending the long-standing debate on preference.
Overall, the Schoeps MK 2 S capsules, like all products in the Colette series, are at the pinnacle of microphone technology, delivering performance that is nothing short of remarkable.
